LARAS SEKAR ARUM – Interview
Name: Laras Sekar Arum
Height: 171 cm
Hypnotising Indonesian gem Laras of NATIVEMODELS.ID has made her way to Paris, where she signed with Ford Models after only a couple of months on the modeling scene. When not strolling the streets of Paris, she enjoys listening to music – anything from electronic to jazz, from pop to classical music – you name it, and she’s probably a fan.
In this interview, she gives an insight into her freshly started modeling career.
How did you get into modeling?
To be honest, I feel like I am in a dream and I haven’t woken up since September. I am so lucky that I am here, that I am given the chance to work with amazing people that I can learn a lot from. It all started when I first joined my mother agency in Jakarta, Indonesia, called NATIVEMODELS.ID. They started taking my polaroids and posted some on Instagram. Days after, I was approached by Ford Paris. Basically, they commented how they are interested in me, approached me via email interested in developing me as a model in Paris, and now I just signed the contract with Ford Paris. Life is crazy 🙂
What’s the most exciting thing about being a model?
There’s a lot exciting things about being a model. I have the chance to meet many interesting people, travel to another country, the most exciting thing is to wear the most beautiful, expensive, glamorous outfits, and can be the first to wear fabulous designer clothes, shoes, and accessories, and get to do something that I love as my career.
Are there any models you look up to?
Yess, I love Kate Moss.
You are in Paris now, how do you like it so far?
From its bustling river banks, the beauty and charm of its architecture, its delicious food, countless opportunities to explore art, culture, and history. No matter what day of the week, there’s always something to do in Paris! Whether it be listening to live music, going to museums or cafe, or shopping. I always always find something fun that I enjoy. Paris is a very social city – the streets are always bustling with activity.
What’s the weirdest thing about you?
I still go to children’s section and buy little girls clothes that fit my size. A lot of times the designs are great, and I cannot find them in the women’s section.
What makes you smile everyday?
I think life is all about those simple pleasures. What makes me smile everyday – seeing someone else’s smile… and knowing you put it there, they can be the best part of your day.
How do you see yourself ten years from now?
Hmm, in 10 years I would like to stay in modelling, I’d like to try to open a modelling school. I am not sure yet, but I would surely like to try.
